Opening for friends from Portland, March Fourth.

Taken from the B-Side Lounge website….
MarchFourth is a date, a command, and a large band poised to take on the world. How do you define the experience of a MarchFourth show? What kind of images emerge when you listen to their eponymous 9-song debut disc? Imagine Duke Ellington meets Sgt Pepper in an international big-top Fantasia evoking a familial community reminiscent of the Grateful Dead. Imagine a 1920’s speakeasy where Mr. Bungle meets the Shogun Warriors in a PG Clockwork Orange. M4 is not just for hipsters and adults; the kids and grandparents love it too!

This Thursday, August 28, we’ll be playing at the Jazz Aspen Music Festival. For those who’ll be there, we’re playing 3 sets in the festival (2pm, 4pm, and 6:15pm), and we’ll be playing a full show at night at The Mountain Dragon.
Other acts at the festival include Bob Dylan, Ziggy Marley, Widespread Panic, Jerry Douglas, Yonder Mountain, John Fogerty, Stanton Moore Trio, and many others. Should be a fun time.
On Friday night, we’ll be back at The St Julien in Boulder from 7-10. One of the last good summer nights for us before it turns to fall, so come out and enjoy. Always a good time.

This Friday night 7-10pm at The St Julien Hotel with Marcelo Bernardes from Rio de Janeiro on sax and flute. Marcelo is one of the most respected and active musicians on the Rio scene, playing in numerous samba and choro groups around Lapa, and acting as musical director in popular groups such as Choro na Feira.
He has played with Chico Buarque since the early 1980’s (here’s a video of him performing with Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso), and has performed and recorded with many others including Nana Cayimi, Milton Nascimento, Djavan and Claudio Nucci.
Come out and take advantage of an opportunity to see one of Brazil’s finest musicians.

Tonight Sambadende will be at The B-side Lounge (formerly Trilogy), sharing the bill with Jonny Rademakers’ Strings and Bata project. Strings and Bata combines string instruments with the traditional afro-Cuban bata drums. This is the first time that they’ll be performing this music.
Sambadende will play during the middle of the night, followed by DJ Jonny R.
Tomorrow night we are at the St Julien. We heard that the crowd last time was the biggest they’d ever seen at the St Julien. Let’s do it again tomorrow.

This Friday night, 7-10pm in the back of St Julien Hotel. Chico is traveling and we’ll have Francisco Marques from Ginga sitting in with us. Summer flies by fast, so don’t miss one of the few chances we have to play outside at the Julien this summer.
See you there!

A very fun first Brazilian night in Denver last night organized by Manny Caballero. Capoeira Luanda was there doing their thing and keeping the dance floor happening. We’re scheduled to play their Batizado party on July 12, which was a great party last year. Check their website out here.
